Hydrogen Production via Steam Reforming with CO2 Capture

چکیده

Hydrogen demand in refineries is increasing vigorously due to the stringent transportation fuel specifications, furthermore the interest in the so-called hydrogen economy developed in the recent years put the hydrogen as energy carrier in the centre of a growing interest. More than 95% of the hydrogen for refinery use is nowadays produced via hydrocarbon steam reforming, where Foster Wheeler plays an active role both as a technology and steam reforming furnace (the Terrace WallTM) supplier. Depending on the quality of the feedstock (natural gas, rich gases, naphtha, etc.), one ton of hydrogen produced will also produce 9 to 12 tons of CO2. As a consequence, from carbon emissions point of view, besides the optimisation of the hydrogen balance (Stockle and Bullen, 2008) and the improvements in production technologies, CO2 capture is also an option to be considered. The paper will examine the possibilities of CO2 capture in a steam reforming based plant, and its impact on the economics of hydrogen production.

Simultaneous high hydrogen content-synthesis gas production and in-situ CO2 removal via sorption-enhanced reaction process: modeling, sensitivity analysis and multi-objective optimization using NSGA-II algorithm

The main focus of this study is improvement of the steam-methane reforming (SMR) process by in-situ CO2 removal to produce high hydrogen content synthesis gas. Sorption-enhanced (SE) concept is applied to improve process performance. In the proposed structure, the solid phase CO2 adsorbents and pre-reformed gas stream are introduced to a gas-flowing solids-fixed bed reactor (GFSFBR). One dimens...

Hydrogen production via steam reforming of LPG on Ni/Zeolite catalysts

Steam reforming is one of the most important processes for producing hydrogen from hydrocarbon fuels such as LPG and has attracted much attention due to its high efficiency and economy. In this study, the LPG steam reforming reaction was investigated on nickel catalysts supported on four various zeolites (H-Y, Na-Y, HZSM5 and Ferrierite). The catalytic tests were performed in a tubular fixed be...

Hydrogen production from methane and solar energy ¬タモ Process evaluations and comparison studies

Three conventional and novel hydrogen and liquid fuel production schemes, i.e. steam methane reforming (SMR), solar SMR, and hybrid solar-redox processes are investigated in the current study. H2 (and liquid fuel) productivity, energy conversion efficiency, and associated CO2 emissions are evaluated based on a consistent set of process conditions and assumptions. The conventional SMR is estimat...

Hydrogen-Rich Gas Production by Sorption Enhanced Steam Reforming of Woodgas Containing TAR over a Commercial Ni Catalyst and Calcined Dolomite as CO2 Sorbent

The aim of this work was the evaluation of the catalytic steam reforming of a gaseous fuel obtained by steam biomass gasification to convert topping atmosphere residue (TAR) and CH4 and to produce pure H2 by means of a CO2 sorbent. This experimental work deals with the demonstration of the practical feasibility of such concepts, using a real woodgas obtained from fluidized bed steam gasificatio...
